Off The Charts

Our little "munchy" is getting so big! We had her 6 month appointment last week and she weighed in at 20lbs. 4oz. and is 28 3/4" long. She is "off the charts" in everything and wearing 12-18 month clothes! But I guess we shouldn't be surprised considering the size of her parents. It seems like Emma is learning something new everyday. Her favorite thing to do now is sit. She can now sit up completely on her own with no support and play with toys. She grabs all of our cups and tries to drink them, so the doc said it was ok to start her on a sippy cup. She started eating foods and so far has had peas, carrots, apples, bananas, sweet potatoes, and cereal. She loves her "Mimi" more than ever. Her face lights up every time she sees her! She is learning to sleep a little better since her stay in the hospital got her all messed up. She likes to pet the dogs when they come up to sniff her. She grabs just about everything that is put in front of her (which is making it harder and harder to take her out to eat!). She grabbed Papa's coffee cup at brunch and spilled the hot coffee all over her and him (2 times!)! She sat in a high chair for the first time this month. Her hair is so long that we have to pin it to the side with a bow. She had her first "play date" with my friends that I was pregnant with and their babies. She is trying to crawl...gets up but then quickly faceplants into the ground. She loves to look at her dad across the room and smile. If she is lucky he will look back and smile and wave and that sets her off into a "jumping" fit. It is the cutest thing ever. She is definitely a daddy's girl. Her last month has been a healthy one which has been very nice considering all she went through. Munchy continues to be the best thing that ever happened to us. How is it possible to love something this much? I don't know, but I am pretty sure that God is involved:) God is Good!

My Favorite Baby Quotes

Since my new favorite thing in life is babies (who would've thought, right?), I have come across a few quotes that I would love to share...
A baby will make love stronger, days shorter, nights longer, bankroll smaller, home happier, clothes shabbier, the past forgotten, and the future worth living for.
Author Unknown
Making the decision to have a child - it's momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking outside your body.
Elizabeth Stone
If you were to open up a baby's head -- and I am not for a moment suggesting that you should -- you would find nothing but an enormous drool gland.
Dave Barry
The worst feature of a new baby is its mother's singing.
Kin Hubbard

And my favorite quote....
The moment a child is born,
the mother is also born.
She never existed before.
The woman existed, but the mother, never.
A mother is something absolutely new.
Rajneesh

Friendship

I was recently asked to be Maid of Honor in my best friend's wedding. I was so excited to hear the news of her engagement and so honored to be asked to fill that role! It got me really thinking about friendship and inspired me to write about it.

Anybody who knows me knows that my family is everything to me. I wouldn't be who I am without my family and I wouldn't be able to live without them. My family is my support system, my biggest fans, my everything.

There is something about close friends, though, that is so special and amazing. I hope everyone is lucky enough to have that one friend that you can completely be yourself with. Who will never judge you, who will laugh at all your corny jokes, who still loves you even at your worst. That friend who has been there for years and years and who you know will still be the same even if you haven't talked for a while. I am lucky to have that friend in Robin. I am also lucky to have a handful of other close friends that I can count on and who have been there for me for years and years. I wouldn't be who I am without those friends who have helped shape me over the course of my life!

I have been so blessed! God not only gave me the love of my family, but also the love of my friends. You all know who you are...thank you. Thank you for being so loyal, loving, honest, and fun! There is so much joy in my life because of you.

I want that drink!

Emma turned 5 months yesterday, so we thought we would celebrate with a drink! That is, of course, her new favorite thing in the world. We also celebrated at Shanahan's (well, we really celebrated Mimi's birthday) where she wanted some cake. Happy 5 month birthday, little munchkin!

The tubes are removed:)

We finally got a good doctor's report today and Emma is off of oxygen! Phew- that was a long two weeks of hauling tanks and cords around. Here she is after the tubes came off!

We have a GIGGLER!

Emma has seemed to do things early, but laughing was not one of them. Well, she finally did it on Saturday night! It is the cutest thing I have ever heard. Here is a not so good video of her laughing while I kiss and tickle her not so small belly. You just have to listen to the beginning and you will hear it. Turn your volume up! Sorry- the angle of the camera cut her off.

Tank

Well, Emma is FINALLY feeling better! YAY:) Her ear infection is finally clearing up and I have my happy baby back. Phew! I forgot how happy she really is-it's been a while. The doc said to keep her isolated for the next month. Even if she picks up a little cold, she could end up right back in the hospital. So no more going to public places! She is not well enough to come off oxygen yet, but hoping to be there soon!

We went to visit Aunt Lindsay and Uncle Colin yesterday. They just moved into their new rental house and got a new dog! Here we are meeting "Tank" Condon (name could change!). We LOVE him.

We are blessed!

(Sorry about the spacing around the pictures. I am just learning this blogging thing!)

I meant to start a blog before our little angel's arrival, but I guess I got too big, swollen, and lazy to have the energy to write! See picture (taken on my due date). Now here we are, almost 5 months later and I finally did it. Little did I know that no matter how tired I thought I was at the end of my pregnancy, I was going to feel ten times more tired once our baby girl arrived. Currently, I am operating on 3 hours of sleep, so this post might not be the most entertaining of posts!

The purpose of this blog is to document and update our family and friends on the happenings in our lives. Mostly, the happenings in Emma Grace's life! I will quickly recap the last 4 1/2 months of our lives...

I sometimes have a hard time remembering life before Emma. It seems so long ago and life is so much more meaningful now. Life was already great! Being married to your soul mate is indescribable. But, producing a child with your soul mate can only be described as a miracle from God. She arrived on 9/10/09, one day after her due date. She was 9 lbs. 1 oz. and 22 inches long. Since then, she has grown like a weed! She is currently off the charts in height (surprise, surprise!) and in the 96th percentile in weight.

Emma has been a quick learner when it comes to physical things. She started smiling at 5 weeks old. I will NEVER forget that moment that I was sitting on the couch with her, we locked eyes, and those tiny little corners of her mouth started moving up. It took my breath away. That was the start of the happiest baby on the block! The only thing that stops this baby from smiling is getting sick. And, boy, has she gotten sick! More on that later. Emma rolled over both ways at 3 months, which is also pretty early! She scoots herself across the floor when you're not looking. She squeals with delight (especially when she sees Daddy!). The one thing I have been not so patiently waiting for is to hear that laugh! I will be sure to write when it happens.

Emma has experienced a lot in her short life! She has been to many Broncos tailgates, a Broncos game, a Nuggets game, the Stock Show/Rodeo, many Columbine High School basketball games, holiday parties, meals out (weekly breakfast with Great Grandma and Great Grandad), and Christmas. She has had MANY visitors from all of you and feels so loved.

Emma has been mostly a very healthy baby. Until about a month ago! She started with a bad bout of pink eye that came and went in both eyes TWICE. That was accompanied by a cold that lasted a couple weeks. About 2 weeks ago, her cough started getting deeper and noisier. I started to worry so I took her into the pediatrician to get checked out. She was RSV positive and, long story short, ended up in the hospital for a week! That was the worst week of my life. I stayed with her and experienced a sort of helplessness I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. That poor little thing was SO sick and it was so scary. She was discharged on Friday and we were back at the ER on Saturday to find out that she has a double ear infection. UGH! When will this baby girl get a break? Hopefully she is now on the mend.

Well, I better end this now because Emma is waking up from a nap and we are off to see the pediatrician again! I hope you all enjoy our new blog and come back to visit often:)
